What happens after submitting the Ukraine military compensation application
Submitting the file is not the end of the process. Next comes the official verification phase by Ukrainian authorities, which can include additional document requests, military queries, and documentary reviews.
Registration and acknowledgment of receipt
Once the application is submitted to the competent authority, an official case number is generated. This number is important: it allows tracking the case status and serves as the reference for all subsequent communications.
Acknowledgment of receipt does not mean the file has been approved — it only confirms it has entered the review system.
Documentary verification phase
Authorities check that:
- All required documents are present and correctly apostilled and translated
- The claimant's family link to the fallen soldier is documented
- The death occurred in circumstances recognized by law
- No other active or paid claim exists for the same deceased
Military verification
Authorities consult military records to confirm the soldier was actively assigned to a recognized unit, the death occurred in active service or qualifying circumstances, and no prior payment has been made for the same entitlement.
Additional requests
It is common for authorities to issue one or more requests for:
- Additional documents not in the initial file
- Clarifications about family relationship or death circumstances
- Correction of documents with errors or inconsistencies
- Banking information for eventual payment
Receiving an additional request does not mean the file will be denied. It is a normal part of the verification process. The key is responding correctly and on time.
Possible outcomes
- Approval — the right to compensation is recognized and the payment process begins.
- Denial — the reason is stated. If grounds for appeal exist, a correction or supplementary documentation can be submitted.
- Suspension — the file is put on hold, usually due to beneficiary conflict or missing essential documentation.
How is the outcome communicated to the family?
Official communication goes through the legal representative designated in the power of attorney. Legado de Valor relays information to the family in their language as soon as it is received.
