A Spanish citizen has died in the war in Ukraine, according to various sources and his family. The deceased is Ángel Adrover, a 31-year-old man from Portocolom (Felanitx, Mallorca), and he is the first Spaniard to have died in the conflict since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
Adrover, a telecommunications engineer who lived in the Netherlands, decided to travel to Ukraine to fight. His mother confirmed to the Balearic newspaper Última Hora that her son had traveled to the country to join the fight, as also reported by the news agencies Efe and Europa Press.
The Diplomatic Information Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to RTVE.es that the death occurred last Saturday afternoon, and the Spanish Embassy was immediately notified, assuming management of the case. The embassy has contacted Adrover’s family to communicate the news and offer necessary support, including arrangements for the repatriation of the body, which will take place in the coming days.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not disclosed details about the circumstances of his death or the exact reason for his presence in Ukraine.
